Wondering how much does it cost to renovate a bathroom? The fact is that bathroom renovation costs can vary dramatically. It could be anywhere from $5-$50k depending upon how big, extent of structural works, access to alter existing plumbing, quality & extent of wall and floor finishes.
At the low end, though, a basic bathroom renovation can be had for less than $10,000. If the job happens to be in Sydney, Hobart or Canberra, you can add another 10 percent.
These prices would in most cases include plastering, painting, wiring, plumbing, relocation or replacement of windows, the renewal of fittings and fixtures, cabinetry additions and surfacing (eg. tiling) and assume a medium-quality upgrade.
The cheapest available bathroom renovations are those where the layout of the bathroom remains unchanged and no major plumbing changes are needed. In addition, all the new fittings, including toilet, tiles and shower screen, would be at the budget end.
Normally though, you want a better than basic-level job and the final price of the typical bathroom renovation in Sydney ranges from around $20,000 to $25,000. This includes the old bathroom totally stripped out; new walls; drainage rearranged; new ceiling; new electricals, including lighting, exhaust fans and underfloor heating; allowance for full-height tiling and decent-quality PC items (toilet, bath, etc). A full renovation as above-mentioned should be done in between two and four weeks.

That’s about right on the mark. Now in 2012, with the carbon tax, I would say the cost of renovating a bathroom in Canberra will increase around 5% due to large increases in other services and goods.
The average bathroom renovation in Canberra now is around $12,000 for a budget renovation with standard ceramic tiles, no changing of plumbing points and so on.
